APP-STORE STORYTELLING

Choose the first screenshot in an app-store sequence

The first screenshot should make the app's main task understandable quickly. Choose an interface state that supports a clear benefit.

Put it into practice

  1. Identify the primary reason someone would use the app.
  2. Capture a representative completed state.
  3. Review the first image without relying on later slides.

What this looks like

WORKED EXAMPLE

A habit app opens its sequence with a useful daily view rather than a sign-in form.

A detail to keep clear

A benefit claim should match the app behavior shown in the screenshot.

Using MockupX

Store specifications are maintained by Apple and Google and can change. Check the relevant console's current requirements for the device family and asset type. MockupX creates images; it does not submit listings, validate every policy or guarantee approval.

Check the result

Keep the original screenshot, then review the exported file at the size where people will see it. Check the message, the visible interface and the final crop separately. For a handoff, record the destination and the approved file so another person can distinguish the final version from a draft.
